Case Study
SVP (Legal) Global Media Company, Asia
The Brief
The ideal candidate required sound experience in broadcast media; regional cross-border and transactional M&A experience; a willingness to engage in difficult hands-on work, as well as management skills commensurate with steering a large legal team. It was requisite that the candidate have the ability to resolve, independently and quickly, a broad range and type of legal problems across Asia.
The Execution
We took careful note of current problems being experienced by the client's legal team across the region and of the steps taken to remedy them. We also paid close attention to the culture and composition of the legal and executive teams.
In consultation with the client it was determined that the most effective approach would be to conduct a global search, thereby broadening the scope outside Asia and utilising Carmichael Fisher's international reach.
In collaboration with colleagues from the Singapore, London and Australian offices the Hong Kong team networked to locate candidates in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia and in addition placed advertisements originating from several different countries to reach a broad readership.
The Result
Within a short time we were able to draw up a substantial long list which was refined to three short listed candidates who were invited to interview. One of the three was based locally, the other two overseas. The last two were flown into Hong Kong after several rounds of screening conducted both remotely from Hong Kong and face to face in the jurisdiciton where each candidate was based.
The skill set of each candidate included both impeccable private practice background (2 'Magic Circle', 1 top tier NY firm) as well as outstanding cross-border M&A skills. Crucially, we introduced persons with problem solving abilities beyond their area of practical training.
Both the client and the successful candidate remain in touch with us. This initial engagement has provided a strong platform for continuing business between our firm and the client company.
