Michael Markiewicz

Michael Markiewicz is the Group CEO of Carmichael Fisher and heads the NSW business, based in Sydney.

Originally qualified as a solicitor both in England and in New South Wales, Michael has more than 27 years recruitment and business management experience.

Prior to establishing Carmichael Fisher in 2002, Michael was the CEO of Hamilton James and Bruce. During his sixteen years with HJB he was instrumental in building the company into one of the leading national consultancies.

Carmichael Fisher brings together recruiters of excellence across diverse practice groups to include Banking, Finance, Law, Mining, Marketing and general management across different industry sectors.

Michael has spearheaded the expansion of Carmichael Fisher globally to include seven offices across Australia, Asia, Europe and the Middle East. He has brought together some of the most experienced consultants across the group’s different geographies.  In concert with the business heads, Michael continues to conduct regional and global briefs for longstanding clients.  His depth and breadth of contacts and relationships across countries, continents, industries and job functions are amongst the strongest in Australia. 

Jamal Khan

Jamal Khan  heads Carmichael Fisher’s Victorian business, based in Melbourne.

Jamal graduated from the University of Durham with a degree in Law, and completed the Legal Practice course at Nottingham Law School.

Jamal has more than thirteen years experience in executive search and recruitment in both the UK and Australia. He spent his initial five years with Badenoch & Clark, a highly structured global firm followed by three years with Hydrogen Group, which rapidly grew from a small privately owned business to an AIM listed global firm.  Over these eight years Jamal developed  knowledge and breadth across many sectors including:- Management Consulting; Financial Services; Retail; IT; Public Sector; Legal; and Accounting and Finance.

Jamal has previously established five start-up operations developing both permanent and interim practices. He has been instrumental in the expansion of Carmichael Fisher in Victoria and has personally worked on numerous regional and global searches across the Professional Services, Management Consulting and Financial Services sectors.

Justin Hobday

Justin Hobday heads Carmichael Fisher’s European business based in London.

After studying Accountancy at Brighton University, Justin joined American Express in consumer sales and marketing.  He has been in executive search since 1992, when he joined Harvey Nash which, at the time, was a small, privately owned recruitment firm.

During his fifteen years with Harvey Nash Justin played an instrumental role in growing their executive search practice in multiple offices across continental Europe.  His final role was as group business development director and part of the operating board. He always remained hands-on with a passion for high quality delivery and had personal accountability for many of the firm’s broadest client relationships in Europe.

Justin joined Carmichael Fisher in early 2008 and has brought a breadth of multinational and SME relationships resulting in the substantial growth of the firm’s profile, client base and revenue across Europe.  Together with a team of established consultants and researchers he has aligned the focus of the business to core sector practice groups with a pan-European focus.

Craig Pointon

Craig Pointon heads Carmichael Fisher’s Middle East  and North African business.

After graduating with a Business degree from Aston University, Craig started his recruitment career in London.  He spent a number of years delivering on senior banking assignments with a select number of the multinational banks in the City.

In 2005 he was approached to join a small multinational firm  with a mandate to build their banking business in the UAE.  Craig quickly developed the banking practice as a regional market leader delivering on numerous senior level wealth management appointments.

In 2006, Craig joined Carmichael Fisher to lead and develop the Carmichael Fisher  Middle East business.  This was the first international market for the Australian based organisation and was the catalyst for the growth of the firm across the globe.

Craig now leads a fully regional team, with industry experts and functional specialists focusing on many of the growth markets in the region.  The Carmichael Fisher Middle East business has delivered retained search mandates across MENA and continues to build on its reputation as one of the leading executive search firms in the region.

Gary Smith

Gary Smith heads Carmichael Fisher’s South East Asia business, based in Singapore.

Gary started his career in recruitment in London in 1992, after graduating from Nottingham University with an honours degree in Business.

His 17 years industry experience has been gained in London, Sydney and Singapore; in large publicly listed companies and more recently as an equity partner in a specialist practice.  Over the years he has focused on the recruitment of industry specialists for many of the world’s leading software, services and telecommunications companies.

Gary established Carmichael Fisher, Singapore in 2008 together with other sector specialists in Commerce, Financial Services, Engineering and Human Resources. He enjoys long established client and candidate relationships spanning Asia, Europe and Australia.

Peter Udall

Peter Udall heads Carmichael Fisher’s North Asia  and Greater China business, based in Hong Kong.

Peter has more than fourteen years' recruitment experience in Asia and Europe. Throughout that time he has worked as a hands-on sector specialist consultant with TMT vendors and in-house TMT functions across all industries. He is supported by a team of highly experienced consultants and researchers and has an extensive network of clients and candidates with whom he has developed deep relationships over many years.

Prior to commencing at Carmichael Fisher, Peter was head of the IT&T practice in Hong Kong for Talent2.  He was previously the general manager of the Hong Kong subsidiary of a London based publicly listed parent company.

Peter is widely sought as a media commentator on the Hong Kong recruitment market.  He has authored numerous articles and hosted industry forums for delegates up to CXO level.

Born in the UK, Peter’s early career was in property following completion of his tertiary qualifications.
